FAAN Deploys Robots To Airports in Nigeria

On Saturday June 27 2020, the Federal Government carried out a flight simulation at the Nnamdi Azikwe Airport in Abuja, Nigeria. It was spearheaded by the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika. The purpose of this exercise was to test the effectiveness of the COVID-19 protocols at the airport. In addition, the Director-General of the NCAA has said we should expect a new date for the reopening of the airports soon.

Ahead of the reopening of the Airports for local flights, there are indications that provisions have been made through the Nigeria Economic Sustainability Plan for FREE COVID-19 tests to be carried out on passengers and crew members for the next 12 months.

FAAN is set to deploy robots in airports across the country ahead of the resumption of commercial flights. As far as we know, these robots are intended to assist with profiling, check-in and temperature checks for the passengers. 

Effective Saturday August 1 2020, FAAN will be increasing their passenger service fee for domestic and international flights by 100%. The current rates stand at ₦1,000 & $50 but will become ₦2,000 for domestic and $100 for international flights.

The European Union is set to reopen its borders on Wednesday July 1 2020. However, Nigeria, the US and 52 other countires have been excluded from countries qualified for travel into Europe. Let’s hope that when Nigeria’s airspace is open this ban will be lifted.

Get Ready to Fly

Domestic flights should have commenced on 21 June 2020, in Nigeria according to the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Musa Nuhu, the government will consider a new resumption date for flights between now and the end of June.

As a follow-up, the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 has said that the Federal Government will carry out flight trials on Saturday, 27 June 2020 at Lagos airport as part of its preparation plans. It is expected that today Wednesday 24th June 2020, NCAA will submit its reports to the PTF on the aviation restart plan; Travelstart will keep you posted.

Meanwhile, the UAE government has announced that Dubai will start welcoming tourists and visitors starting from 7 July 2020. All tourists are expected to get the appropriate entry permit and also have medical travel insurance before heading to Dubai. Tourists will also be required to register their details on the COVID-19 DXB Smart App. Please read this to understand the requirements for travel into and from Dubai. International flights are still yet to resume in Nigeria.
